What Does A Digital Copywriter Do?

A digital copywriter is someone who writes exclusively for an online audience. A digital copywriter never writes with pen and paper, they instead use a keyboard to create different types of content such as text for web pages, blogs, or social media posts. A digital copywriter specializes in the promotion of businesses through a digital platform. They produce the written content for web pages, either working in an employed position or as a freelancer. A digital copywriter’s job is to engage the reader and motivate them to do something, such as buy a product or service. They may also write copy designed to convey valuable information about a brand, industry, or issue.

The responsibilities of a digital copywriter include:

  1. Liaising with clients from set-up to completion. A digital copywriter will be checking in with the client regularly, either by phone, email, or face-to-face.
  2. Tailoring the content and style of individual writing assignments according to their purpose, whether they are intended to sell or inform.
  3. Carrying out project scoping and creating a clear brief, in order to ensure you understand what the client wants.
  4. Understanding your target audience. Since you are not writing for the client but their readers instead, you will need to know what interests them.
  5. Working with creative teams to ensure that the visual elements of the webpage complement the words.
  6. Identifying key messages. A digital copywriter should understand the main thing that they want the reader to feel and do and how to communicate this powerfully.
  7. Researching the client's industry and their audience.

  9. Identifying fresh and interesting angles for their articles
  10. Editing their own as well as others' writing
  11. Input their content to the client's content management software (CMS), when required
  12. Providing other digital content, such as images and video, if required
  13. Assisting with business pitches to win new clients or projects.
  14. Working with their team to review the impact of their work
